ief Alumni Spotlight, we are thrilled to introduce Jasmin Harvey, Alief Middle School's Teacher of the Year. With a journey that embodies dedication and community spirit, Jasmin's story is a testament to the positive impact of giving back and the profound influence of mentorship.
A Journey of Education and Inspiration
Jasmin Harvey's educational journey began in 2005, when she transferred to the Alief Independent School District. This pivotal move was inspired by her
father, Mark Harvey, who served as an Alief ISD police officer. Embracing the Alief family, Jasmin found herself surrounded by exemplary leaders such as Dr. Walter Jackson, Dr. Cecilia Crear, and Mr. Tim Clark at Alief Taylor High School. Their leadership and resilience left a lasting imprint on her, guiding her throughout her career.
Now an 8th-grade science teacher, team lead, and 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year at Alief Middle School, Jasmin embodies the mantra she learned from Dr. Jackson: "Failure is not an option." She strives to instill this mindset in her students, ensuring they are equipped to overcome challenges.
Giving Back to the Alief Community
Jasmin's commitment to the Alief community extends beyond the classroom. Whether coaching sports, mentoring students, or participating in community events, she is dedicated to fulfilling the needs of her students, colleagues, and the wider community. Her involvement with organizations such as the Alief Taylor Mademoiselles and the student athletic trainer program further exemplifies her dedication to service.
The aftermath of Hurricane Harvey showcased the strength of the Alief community, and Jasmin has never forgotten the support she received. This experience has deepened her commitment to giving back and fostering a supportive environment for others.
