Elsik High School’s Speech and Debate Team delivered an outstanding performance at the Seven Lakes Tournament this past weekend. Despite competing with only eight students, the Mighty Rams finished among the Top 10 in Overall Team Sweepstakes and earned an impressive 3rd Place in Speech Team Sweepstakes.
Leading the team was junior Dustin Martinez, who achieved a remarkable milestone by earning Elsik’s first three state qualifications of the season. Martinez placed 4th in Congressional Debate and was named Champion in both Oratory and Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, making him TRIPLE QUALIFIED for the TFA State Tournament in March.
Several other Mighty Rams earned outstanding individual results. Senior Perry Sharp placed 6th in Domestic Extemp, while ENGC student Lizandro Ricardo Gongora earned 6th in Varsity Impromptu Speaking. Sophomore Heaven Pittman placed 7th in Poetry. Junior Aliyah Hamu earned 4th in POI and an impressive 2nd in Prose, while senior Luis Gomez placed 5th in International Extemp.
Gomez also advanced to the semifinals in Original Oratory, while Gomez and Sharp reached the semifinals in Impromptu Speaking.
